Payroll Policy

Okotoks Referee Association (ORA) Payroll Policy

The Okotoks Referees’ Association will run a monthly payroll cycle consisting of all hockey games an official has skated within that particular month.   Included in the payroll run for each referee will be:

  1. Game Fees for all non-cash games skated
  2. Travel/Mileage claims based on the mileage policy
  3. Membership rebate - if applicable
  4. Deduction for administrative charges, currently set at 5% of each game fee
  5. Deductions for any fines assessed to the official or cash games skated
Payment Schedule

October General Membership Meeting:              hockey worked in August and September

December General Membership Meeting:           hockey worked in October and November

February General Membership Meeting:             hockey worked in December and January

April (Annual) General Membership Meeting:      hockey worked in February, March and April

Direct Deposit

If you are a new official or an official that did not use direct deposit last season, please sign up for direct deposit.  The process is straight forward and the information that you enter in the form is used to setup direct deposit to your account.

This process requires 2 DISTINCT STEPS:
      1. Complete the form using this link
      2. Email a VOID cheque or your completed bank’s direct deposit form to mileage@oraofficials.com

If you are a returning official with the ORA and used direct deposit last season with the ORA, please follow the link below indicating if there are/are not changes to your banking information from last season.  If you are unsure, please check YES when asked if there are changes and you can input your information.
Update Direct Deposit Information

How to Receive Your Money
  1. Sign up for Direct Deposit (see above); the service expectation is to have you your money by the 10th business day of the month
  2. Attend a General Membership Meeting and pick up your cheque.
  3. A fellow official may pick up your cheque for you at the General Membership Meeting. They must verify by signature that they have received your cheque(s). Cheque(s) will not be sealed, so details of the amount will not be private.
  4. All uncollected cheques will be mailed twice during the season to the home address set up in the ORA Goalline System.  The first mailing will be after the December Membership Meeting.  The second mailing will be after the final General Membership Meeting in April.
  5. Lost, outdated, or damaged cheques will be re-processed with a $25.00 surcharge for each lost, outdated or damaged cheque.
  6. Incorrect direct deposit banking information will be the sole responsibility of the provider; ensure your information is accurate!
  7. Fees to collect incorrectly directed funds will be billed back to the official along with a re-processing fee of $25 surcharge for each occurrance.
ORA Retention
  1. A retention rebate may be distributed to officials on an annual basis if the following occurs
  • the Okotoks Referees Association posts an operating surplus in its last fiscal year
  • the Okotoks Referees Association executive directs such funds to be allocated for a retention rebate
  1. To qualify for a retention rebate the official MUST have completed the following
  • continue to be a member in good standing
  • skated a minimum 10 assignments in the previous fiscal year with the Okotoks Referees Association
  • successfully attended and completed a Hockey Alberta recertification clinic for the current year
  • successfully completed at least 1 assignment for the current year
  1. The retention rebate for each individual will be calculated by prorating the allocated funds across each qualified individual based on the amount each individual paid in association fees
  2. The retention rebate will be paid in the pay period after your expiry date is updated in goalline and completing the requirements in 2. 
  3. The retention rebate will NOT be paid if it is less than $5
  4. If you are retiring as an on-ice official with the Okotoks Referees Association, you can request your rebate by sending an email to finance@oraofficials.com by June 30th
